Even though the majority of social media memes and hatred that followed after the final Game of Thrones episode, ‘The Iron Throne’, the picture’s not entirely clear still. At first sight, it appeared that most of the viewers didn’t like the episode completely. But newer revelations are saying something else.
According to a new poll conducted by The Hollywood Reporter/Morning Consultant, those 2,021 adults who were surveyed, 14% of them had tuned in to watch the finale. The episode itself gained a total viewership of 19.3 million.
As per the new poll, of the 314 people surveyed, who watched the last episode, 26% responded pretty positively, saying they liked the finale ‘a lot’. 37% of the still pleased viewers said they like it ‘some’.
On the other hand, only 10% of viewers expressed that they didn’t like the final ‘at all’. It also implies that the social media reactions, following the episode, saying it was bad and worst, were not entirely true.
Meanwhile, 24% of the people in the poll also said they ‘didn’t really like it’.
The 314 people surveyed were also asked to rate the episode on a scale of 1-10. Where 1 was being deemed ‘very poor’, 10 meant ‘very good’. Overall, on average, the fans gave it a rating of 6.43.
So, as it seems clear that it wasn’t the case that everyone hated the finale. And yet, the online memes and tweets by many people indicated a negative trend for the show’s ending.
After the show ended, fans had come out all-guns-blazing against actress Emilia Clarke. Her character Daenerys Targaryen had received a villainous ending.
But the biggest hatred probably came for Bran Stark (played by Isaac Hempstead Wright), who was named the king of Westeros, in the end.
The outrage was also against the director duo D&D, that is, David Benioff and D.B Weiss. The fans had, in fact, filed a petition on Change.org, calling for the final season of the HBO series to be remade by different directors. The petition had received almost 1.5 million signatures (and still counting).
Star actress of the show, Sophie Turner (aka Sansa Stark), had slammed the petition and found the complaints to be very disrespectful.
